Job, in the midst of his suffering cries out, "Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet I will see God in my flesh." What faith! Job knew that after the troubles of this life, a glorious life with God in heaven was yet to come(Job 19:26).Daniel Tomczykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04108864995473899210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5588735604858393783.post-15155193542347587302012-03-17T07:51:32.162-05:002012-03-17T07:51:32.162-05:00Thanks a lot Pb!!!Thanks a lot Pb!!!Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02492061901613911621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5588735604858393783.post-89935783181370016932012-03-16T14:51:02.206-05:002012-03-16T14:51:02.206-05:00Dan, great blog post. After a busy week and just now wrapping up my sermon on a day when I normally try and take some time off...you've refreshed and encouraged me to thank God for the journey and to focus on all his blessings, mercy, and love. Thanks for that brother.Pastor Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06043430639396005029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5588735604858393783.post-34101173371609892652012-03-16T13:46:24.388-05:002012-03-16T13:46:24.388-05:00Staying within the book of Ecclesiastes I'd po...Staying within the book of Ecclesiastes I'd point to 12:7 which says "the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it." This passage clearly teaches that death is the separation of body and soul. This is in line with the rest of the Bible that at the moment of death the soul of a believer immediately goes to live with God who is described in other OT passages as being in "heaven" (cf Psalm 115:3). The NT makes explicit especially in Romans 4 that those who go to be with God in heaven whether in the OT or the NT are those who by faith in Christ are declared righteous. This is described elsewhere in the OT in various ways such as "being gathered to his people." Perhaps one more thing to note simply about the book of Ecclesiastes is that it intentionally gives a contrasting picture of what life is like "under the sun," that is, looking at things from a purely human perspective as if everything is meaningless compared to the reality of God's existence and how the Creator gives life (and death) meaning. Also, one of my favorite OT confessions of life after death, which is also a prophecy of Christ, is David's words in Psalm 16:9-11.Pastor Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06043430639396005029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5588735604858393783.post-82434490646319674352012-03-13T17:32:18.637-05:002012-03-13T17:32:18.637-05:00What an awesome first sentence in this post! I know this is kind of out of our study, but I had a Jehovah witness, who cuts my hair, ask me to show her where in the OT does it say that believers went to Heaven. Meaning the believing Jews of Jehovah. She showed me a passage in Ecc. where it said the dead are dead. Where can I show her the OT believers went to heaven?Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02492061901613911621noreply@blogger.com
